Oscar Pistorius is a former South African sprint runner and double amputee. Born on November 22, 1986, he gained international fame as the "Blade Runner" for his achievements in Paralympic competition. Pistorius was born without fibulas in both legs, leading to his legs being amputated below the knee when he was just 11 months old.

Despite his disability, Pistorius competed in both Paralympic and able-bodied events. He became the first amputee to win a non-disabled world track medal in 2011 and also competed in the 2012 London Olympics, where he reached the semifinals of the 400 meters and participated in the 4x400 meters relay.
However, Pistorius' life took a dark turn when he shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in the early hours of February 14, 2013, at his home in Pretoria, South Africa. Pistorius claimed that he mistook her for an intruder and fired through a locked bathroom door in self-defense. The trial received widespread media attention, and Pistorius was ultimately found guilty of culpable homicide (manslaughter) in 2014. In a subsequent appeal, the conviction was changed to murder, and he was sentenced to six years in prison. In a later appeal, the sentence was increased to 13 years and five months. The case stirred debates about self-defense, gun control, and the treatment of athletes with disabilities.
